Soiernhaus Refuge
For an adventure, this is the perfect place. If you're looking for a tough day, with rocky trails, big elevation gains and spectacular mountain landscapes, you've come to the right place.
The climb has several possible routes, all of them very steep, with gradients reaching up to 40%. It's a very demanding hike, even using hiking poles. I went in August, at about 35°C, and underestimated the time I needed to complete the route.
When I reached the summit of the Schöttelkarspitze, my intention was to continue to the Soiernspitze, but night fell and I decided to sleep improvised at the Soiernhaus refuge, in the emergency area. I didn't want to risk going down at night over such tricky terrain.
It was an unforgettable experience, with incredible views and excellent food at the refuge. Sleeping in the shared room takes a bit of adjusting, but at that moment I was just grateful to have a place to rest.
It's not a route for beginners. It's a very demanding hike and, in some sections, also dangerous. Enjoy it, but go well prepared and take extra precautions.
