Mount Agung
An amazing night ascent to the summit of the highest volcano in Bali. You start around 2:00–2:30 AM, in total darkness, following only the lights of other hikers. You can't see anything, you go almost on autopilot, but you gain elevation non-stop.
The route isn't long, but it's very demanding: constant gradient, volcanic terrain and quite a lot of elevation in a short time.
When dawn starts to break and you look back, you realise how much you've climbed... all of Bali at your feet, the sea, the clouds below and the crater above. And the sunrise from the summit is simply another level.
