Cuevas del Xitle
One of the most amazing routes near Mexico City. The trail winds around the Xitle volcano, responsible for destroying the ancient city of Cuicuilco more than 2,000 years ago. During the hike, you'll ascend to its crater, located at an altitude of over 3,100 meters, where you'll have spectacular views of the Valley of Mexico and the entire city.
After walking along the crater rim, you'll descend into its interior via a steep slope of loose volcanic rock, before continuing on to some impressive hidden volcanic caves that you can explore.
