Sopelana Beach
A legendary beginner beach in the Bilbao area. The views across the entire Bilbao bay, with the windmills in the background, are fantastic. The sea is very open, so with a strong swell, it gets chaotic and unpredictable quickly. Access is easy: park in the parking lot and walk straight down the slope to the beach. There are multiple surf breaks spread out, which helps find a spot, but it still tends to get quite crowded, especially on weekends and good days. It works best with south/southeast winds and a north-northwest swell.
