Pinguinera Isla Martillo

This is a small island with beaches located in the Beagle Channel, opposite Puerto Williams. It has one of the most important penguin colonies in the region. On Isla Martillo, you can see mainly Magellanic penguins and some gentoo penguins, which live in this protected natural environment. It's the highlight of the Beagle Channel cruise.

The boat stops in front of the beach for 20 minutes so you can see the penguins in their habitat: how they bathe, how they move among themselves… This moment is fantastic, although there are a lot of people on the boat and it can be a bit overwhelming.

This catamaran is very touristy and gets crowded, but it's the cheapest cruise on the Beagle Channel, and I think it's a must-do when you've reached this point so far south (although you can enjoy the views peacefully throughout the trip, as everyone is seated). Other more expensive but better options are to go to Cape Horn and back. It also has two other stops: Bird Island and the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse.
