Tallow Beach
It's the large beach behind Byron Bay, not the town's main beach. It's a very long beach with white sand and fairly clear water. It's quite open and has strong currents, so it's more of a surf spot than a place for relaxing swims.
There's usually a fairly high skill level here, so surfing is mainly for experienced surfers. Beginner lessons are usually held at The Pass, not here at Tallow Beach.
Even so, it's a great beach to spend the day, walk its entire length, and relax for a while. At low tide, there are areas where the water is very shallow, and you can be quite calm near the shore, but when the tide comes in, the waves get bigger.
