Geysers del Tatio
The Tatio Geysers are located at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters and are one of the largest geothermal fields in the world. It's a vast area where you walk among several fumaroles that are constantly emitting steam.
It's not your typical place of shooting jets of water; here, what you see is constant steam rising from the ground because the water boils faster at that altitude. There are spots where you can even see the clearer water and the "living" ground beneath.
The route is very well-maintained: walkways, marked trails, and designated areas. Everything is quite organized, which makes it easy to visit, but it also diminishes the natural feel compared to other more isolated sites on the Altiplano. It's also quite crowded early in the morning when the tours arrive, which was a bit of a disappointment for me.
Even so, it's a large area; you can walk for quite a while and see different hotspots of activity. It's not just a single, isolated spot.
