Monte Bromo
I'd never seen an active volcano so close up. From the summit, you can see the volcanic activity inside it—it's absolutely amazing! You can easily walk along the ridge, which is great if you want to get away from the tourists. It depends a bit on the wind where the smoke blows, but if it reaches you, it'll leave you coughing for a while.
