Torres del Avellano Base Camp
The base camp for the Torres del Avellano is a small clearing in the middle of the forest, next to the river, that guides and hikers use as a base.
There's a cabin inside (you can't use it unless you go with them), but you can use all the surrounding space to camp. It's a very comfortable spot considering you're in the middle of nowhere: there's an area to pitch a tent, space to sit, make a fire, cook and even a kind of improvised 'table'. They even have a small toilet set up.
You can go down to the river to get water, which in principle is drinkable (as always, at your own discretion), and it's a really nice place to spend the night and use as a base to climb up to the lagoons the next day.
Also, it's a fairly safe, quiet place. You can leave things set up for the next day without any problem.
If you don't have experience or gear, the best option is to go with the Avellano guides, because the access isn't easy and the weather here changes a lot. They go prepared and know the area very well.
