Mt. Rinjani
Mt. Rinjani is the summit of the highest volcano in Lombok and one of the most legendary treks on the island. The most classic route, and the one I did, starts in Sembalun with a 2-day and 1-night pack booked with a company, usually with guide and porter included. On the first day you do the whole climb up to Pelawangan (OUTZERO SPOT), where camp is set up with amazing views of the crater, and in the early hours, around 2:00, the final push to the summit begins to reach the top around 6:00 or 6:30 and see the sunrise. From there you have to head back down, on a long day that can easily take you 9 or 10 hours to get back down. The final stretch before the summit is the toughest of all: a lot of gradient and loose volcanic sand — you take a step forward and slip half back.
At the top the views are insane: you can see the island of Sumbawa, the Bali volcanoes like Mount Agung and the whole Rinjani crater at your feet.
