Laguna San Rafael
Laguna San Rafael is one of the best experiences in Patagonia, even though it's a fairly organized and more "touristy" tour.
The idea is to sail to the glacier's tongue within Laguna San Rafael National Park, and as you approach, you see the sheer scale of it: ice walls some 40–50 meters high that are constantly breaking off and tumbling into the water right in front of you.
It's quite impressive because you can get very close in the boat and are surrounded by icebergs that have calved from the glacier, floating all over the lagoon. It's also quite common to see seals swimming among the ice blocks, which adds a lot to the experience.
But for me, the journey itself is also part of the plan: you sail for hours through the Patagonian fjords, which are already quite beautiful and peaceful. And the return trip is fantastic, because it's usually at dusk, at sunset, with calm seas and a much more relaxed atmosphere.
